MARTIN Compston has revealed he got a tattoo to prove his love for his wife because he was frightened of her gun-toting mum.

The Scots actor said he was intimidated by American partner Tianna's mum Sissy after she took him shooting.

His mother-in-law served in the US Air Force and has worked as a cop and a prison officer in Las Vegas.

Compston, 36, originally from Greenock, Inverclyde, told how she took him to a firing range to show off her skills when they were first introduced.

And later the same night the Line of Duty star and his wife decided to get matching love heart tattoos on their wrists.

He said: "I met my wife in Los Angeles and we went up to Vegas on a trip because my best mate was flying in with his missus for his 30th.

"While we were there I met Tianna's mum and she's a Vegas cop and a corrections officer.

"She took me shooting on our first date and showed me just how handy she is with that gun.

"So that night me and the wife got matching heart tattoos. I think that was probably out of fear to show her I wasn't messing about."

Compston, who recently starred in BBC hit The Nest, married Tianna at Mar Hall in Renfrewshire in 2016.

The couple moved to Las Vegas, where Tianna was brought up, and her mum lives two streets away from them.

He added: "We went to Vegas to be near Tianna's family because I am on the road so much.

"I thought it was important that she had people around her and support when she needed it because I am away so much.

"I'm probably here three or four months of the year maximum and the majority of my time is in the UK filming."

Compston was speaking during an Instagram live chat to raise funds for Ardgowan Hospice in Greenock, of which he is patron.

He shot to fame as a teenager when he was cast by filmmaker Ken Loach for the leading role in his film Sweet Sixteen.
