If you’re having second thoughts about your HBO subscription, then no need to worry. We’ve rounded up everything you need to know to cancel your subscription. Whether you’re taking advantage of a free trial and don’t want to pay, or just need a break for a while, this guide will help you.

We also have similar guides for Netflix and Now TV, should you need them. Alternatively, why not check out how to get HBO Max for free, and find out whether or not you can watch the platform in 4K.

How to cancel HBO Max on the website

If you’ve signed up for HBO Max via the browser using your card details, then cancelling is pretty simple. Here’s the steps you need to take:

If you’re on a seven-day free trial, you’ll still get your full weeks worth of HBO Max, even if you cancel as soon as you sign up. If you’ve already paid for your month, then you’ll still have access until when your next billing day would have been.

This method should cover most people who need to cancel, but there are a few exceptions depending on how you pay for your account.

How to cancel HBO Max on the app

You can also cancel directly on the app using exactly the same method, except that you’ll need to access your billing information by clicking on the settings gear icon in the top left on your profile page.

Whilst the above method will work for anyone who signed up on the app using their card details, if you paid for HBO Max on your phone using PayPal through a Google or Apple subscription, the cancelling process will be a little different. You’ll need to go into your app store on your phone, and manage subscriptions from there.

How to cancel HBO Max if you’re billed by a third party

If you’ve added HBO Max as an extra channel through your broadband or TV package, you’ll likely have to contact your provider to cancel your subscription. The exact process will differ depending on who you’re with.
