Walkers urged to keep off Dundee’s Caird Park Golf Course as it prepares to reopen

Walkers have been urged to keep off Caird Park Golf Course as it prepares to reopen after the coronavirus lockdown.

The course, in Dundee, will be back in business from Monday, June 1 after being closed since March when both UK and Scottish governments implemented lockdown restrictions.

Golf Dundee, which manages the course, has issued advice to walkers and dog owners.

It said: “As Caird Park Golf Course has been closed to golfers since beginning of lockdown, many walkers and dog owners have been taking the opportunity to visit our beautiful course with its lush fairways and stunning views north to the Sidlaws.

“However, from Monday June 1 we re-open and this means that for their own safety  it is not advisable for walkers and dog owners to be on the course.

“We recognise that walkers have a right to ‘cross-over’, although this is not the same as going for a walk on the fairways. The general public are respectfully reminded to abide by the outdoor access code when crossing over the course and to keep to the pathways.

“The greenkeepers work really hard to make sure the course is ready to open on Monday the 1st and the courses are fully booked and very busy from this date.

“As the outdoor access code states, the public must stay away from the greens, bunkers and avoid doing anything which could damage the playing surface.

“Walkers and dog owners must also not interfere with golf play. This includes allowing players to play their shot before crossing a fairway, and being still when close to someone who is about to play.

“In addition to safety and damage concerns, dog owners are reminded to keep dogs on a short lead and that any fouling should be picked up and disposed of. It should be noted that following Scottish Golf guidance there will be no bins on the course.”
