Clinton calls out Trump for threatening 'shooting' in Minneapolis: 'That is so wrong'

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Friday blasted President Trump for his comments warning that he would send the military to Minneapolis and that “when the looting starts, the shooting starts” as protests continued to rock the city following the police killing of George Floyd.

Clinton accused the president of “calling for violence against American citizens” while calling for him to be voted out of office in November. 

“That is so wrong. We need honest reckoning and reconciliation. If you haven’t already joined the work to replace him in November, start now,” Clinton tweeted.

Trump tweeted early Friday morning criticizing Minneapolis leaders for their response to the protests over the death of Floyd, a black man who died earlier this week as a police officer knelt on his neck during an arrest. 

Protesters breached and burned a Minneapolis police precinct Thursday night, the third straight night of protests and rioting across the city over Floyd’s death. The fire was at the city’s 3rd Precinct, which was the base of four officers who were fired following the death, NBC News reported.

Twitter on Friday put a warning on one of Trump’s tweets for violating the platform’s policies “regarding the glorification of violence based on the historical context of the last line, its connection to violence, and the risk it could inspire similar actions today.”

The social media giant said, “We've taken action in the interest of preventing others from being inspired to commit violent acts, but have kept the Tweet on Twitter because it is important that the public still be able to see the Tweet given its relevance to ongoing matters of public importance.”

Users will be able to retweet Trump’s post with a comment, but they will not be able to reply to the message, like it or retweet it without comment.

Trump accused Twitter of unfairly targeting his message and Republicans, alleging that “Twitter is doing nothing about all of the lies & propaganda being put out by China or the Radical Left Democrat Party.”
