by Tamara DavisonRihanna admitted that she was once called a 'one-hit wonder' at the start of her career.
The legendary pop star, 32, has since taken the world by storm but not everyone was convinced by the nine-time Grammy winner when she first entered the music scene.
Reminiscing on the start of her journey to stardom alongside songwriter Evan Rogers, both artists have reflected upon the hurdles that the music industry initially posed.
Marking the 15-year anniversary since the release of Rihanna's tune Pon de Replay, the pair talked all things music with Vulture.
Evan, who is also the co-founder of Syndicated Rhythm Productions, revealed that he used to get angry when people slammed Rihanna's singing over a decade ago.
“Around ‘Pon de Replay’ people used to tell me, ‘She’s so cute, but you know, can’t really sing but you don’t care ’cause she’s just so cute’," he told the publication.
"I would get so angry because I always knew she would be that girl that would eventually be doing songs like ‘Stay’ and ‘Diamonds.’"
He added: "But I think the first time I felt like other people got it was ‘Umbrella.’”
Rihanna has also revealed that not everyone had confidence in her when she began singing.
“I remember the first time out with ‘Pon de Replay,’ I got that a lot. A lot of people said I was going to be a one-hit wonder," she is quoted as saying by Vulture.
"But I worked my hardest to prove them wrong. And when we came out with the second album, ‘SOS’ and ‘Unfaithful,’ both blew up!”
She has since proven the critics wrong with her ascent to stardom and has amassed an expansive and inspiring musical career.
Rihanna - who now lives in London - was also recently named one of Britain's richest women and boasts a whopping fortune of £468million.
The musician's enormous wealth is also down to fashion and cosmetics endeavours with her business brand Fenty.
