Lady Gaga's iconic Tiffany diamond taken off her after partying with Madonna

Lady Gaga has admitted that the iconic Tiffany diamond she wore to the 2019 Oscar’s ceremony was taken off her by security.

The Just Dance hitmaker attended the ceremony that year as a double nominee – both as Leading Actress for A Star Is Born, and that film’s soundtrack single Shallow, up for Best Original Song.

And her look well and truly fit the mood of the evening; as her figure-hugging black dress was complimented by a massive diamond with a storied history. Worth more $30 million (£22 million), the 128-carat yellow diamond was last worn by Audrey Hepburn during the Breakfast At Tiffany’s press tour in 1961.

So, as you can imagine security for the gem was out-of-this-world, and they had their eyes on Gaga the whole time.

Appearing on Graham Norton tonight, Gaga explained: ‘I didn’t know what was going to happen that night – I was just so happy to be there. My sister and I were barrelling through champagne backstage and when we left, I didn’t tell anyone, and I still had the diamond on.

‘Everyone freaked out that I was still wearing it – when I went to Madonna’s house, security guards were side-eyeing me and eventually, when we were heading to Taco Bell, my car was pulled over and Tiffany’s security politely removed it from my neck!’

It did seem the stone was a massive good luck charm for the Bad Romance singer, however, as she did win her first Oscar for penning Shallow that night.

It’s just a shame she didn’t wear it while ordering Taco Bell – that would have been the ultimate flex, no?

Speaking of flexes – Gaga is well and truly celebrating as she releases her sixth studio album, Chromatica.

Featuring production by BloodPop and Max Martin, as well as collaborations with Ariana Grande, Sir Elton John and BLACKPINK, Gaga admitted that she ‘couldn’t stop crying,’ following the LP’s drop.

In our review of the collection, we praised it as a ‘dance opus’.

The Graham Norton Show airs tonight at 10.45pm on BBC One.
