Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters has revealed that clubs have yet to come to an agreement on how relegations will be determined if fixtures are not fulfilled.

Project Restart was given the green light on Thursday, when the 20 top-flight clubs agreed to resume matches from June 17.

Aston Villa will be keen for fixtures to resume, with Dean Smith's side finding themselves in 19th position before the coronavirus suspension.

League Two has already determined they will not complete the campaign, with a weighted points-per-game solution determining final standings.

Reports in the national press had suggested that the Premier League would follow suit, if the situation changes and games cannot be played. But Masters, speaking to Sky Sports has admitted that talks are still ongoing.

On the discussions, he said: “They are ongoing. We have meetings scheduled for next week and the week after, possibly for in between and we will get to a final conclusion in those meetings.”

“None of the details have been agreed. We are still in discussions. I’m not going to give away any of the details on the private discussions we are having with our clubs.”

Asked if there was any resistance to fixtures restarting, especially from those teams at the bottom, he added: “No. I would say that we are living in unprecedented times, we’re dealing with a global pandemic and we’re facing a whole host of issues. Clubs all across the league have a difference of opinion on how we deal with specific issues, I would not say that we have faced resistance from any part of the league.

“Generally speaking, we’re working well as a collective and we’re trying to resolve the issues as a collective.”
