Police officer bitten and another cop has wrist bent back in double city centre attack

The officers were attacked as they approached two men who they suspected of possession of drugs in Lancaster Circus. Two men- aged 40 and 28- have been arrested

A police officer was bitten and another had her wrist bent right back by two men in the city centre.

The officers approached two men who were suspected of being in possession of drugs on Lancaster Circus, around 4pm on Thursday (May 28).

The men then attacked the officers when they tried to search them. One was bitten while another suffered a severe injury to her wrist.

 A 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and possession of drugs and a 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer.

A force spokeswoman said: “We arrested two men after two officers were injured in Lancaster Circus, Birmingham at about 4pm yesterday (Thursday 30 May).

“The officers approached two men who they suspected to be in possession of drugs but as they tried to carry out a search both men became aggressive.

“One officer suffered bite wounds and the second suffered an injury to her wrist. They were both treated at hospital and later discharged.

“A man aged 40 was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and possession of drugs and a 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer.

“Both remain in police custody for questioning today (Friday 29 May).”

Superintendent Gareth Morris tweeted in support of his colleagues: “Just messaged two @BrumCityWMP officers this morning who were assaulted during a search.

“One officer was bitten with the offenders teeth puncturing his skin and the other had her wrist bent back and injured.

“Arrests made and @DetectivesWMP dealing.”
