TAMPA, Fla. — The National Hurricane Center says there's a 50% chance that an area of low pressure will develop over the next 48 hours.

The area is currently over the central Atlantic Ocean several hundred miles east-southeast of Bermuda. According to NHC's 9 p.m. update Friday, the system also has a 50% chance of development through the next five days.

A subtropical depression could form early Saturday morning while the system moves north, NHC said. Further development is not expected after that due to "unfavorable environmental conditions," NHC said late Friday night.
