Reggie Wayne Completely Disrespected The Detroit Lions When They Pursued Him In 2015 (VIDEO)
by Darrelle LincolnThe Detroit Lions are a franchise that has never truly been a hotbed for big time free agents to want to take their talents to. It’s not shocking to see why since the franchise is responsible for all-time greats in Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson to end their careers prematurely because the team sucked that bad.
Playing in the Motor city was hardly an intriguing one for former NFL wide receiver Reggie Wayne back in 2015.
Wayne signed with the New England Patriots following his illustrious career with the Indianapolis Colts, but he did receive interest from the Lions as a free agent. That led to them asking Wayne for a workout, as he talked about on he “Hellipod” podcast:
“I said, ‘Work out? You the Detroit Lions. Wait. Work out? I’m good.’ Like, I can give you — I got 14 years of working out that you can see,” Wayne said. “So I was like, ‘Nah, I’m cool.’”
Wayne would ultimately retire before the 2015 campaign without playing a single game. Calvin Johnson would follow him months later which resulted in him having to repay a $1.6 million portion of his signing bonus back to the Lions.
