Dharavi, Dadar and Mahim among Mumbai's worst COVID-19 affected areas

Eleven out of the total 24 civic administrative wards in Mumbai together constitute more than 23,193 of the over 35,000 coronavirus positive cases detected in the city so far, the ward-wise data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has revealed.

Mumbai continues to be the worst-affected city across the country due to the pandemic. A total of 1,437 new cases were reported in Mumbai on Friday, taking its overall count to 36,710.

Maharashtra reported a spike of 2,682 new COVID-19 cases and 116 deaths on Friday. With this, the state has recorded a total of 62,228 cases and 2,098 deaths so far.

According to the BMC's infographic about the ward-wise break-up of such cases, six wards (GN, E, FN, L, HE and KW) have recorded more than 2,000 COVID-19 cases on Friday.

G North has the maximum number of coronavirus cases. Dadar, Mahim and Dharavi fall under this ward, which had 2,816 cases as of May 28.

E ward, covering areas like Madanpura, Mazagaon, Byculla, Mumbai Central and Nagpada, has the second-highest number of 2,487 cases.

Areas like Wadala, Matunga and Antop Hill, which comes under ward F North, have 2,456 cases.

Ward M East, including areas like Govandi and Shivaji Nagar, has so far reported almost 1,761 cases.

Apart from these areas, ward G South (Worli, Prabhadevi) K West (Andheri West, Versova, Irla, Juhu, Oshiwara and parts of Jogeshwari) and L Wards (Kurla and Sakinaka) have over 1900 cases respectively.

1,1104 cases have been witnessed in D Ward (Malabar Hill, Walkeshwar). S, MW, and PN wards have reported 1,377, 1,225 and 1119 cases respectively.

According to the BMC data, areas like Borivali and Dahisar have the least number of cases as compared to other parts of the city. So far, 350 cases have emerged from these areas. Also B and C wards have reported 460 and 401 cases, respectively.
