Kylie Jenner says death of George Floyd is ‘devastating and heartbreaking’
by Kim NovakKylie Jenner has shared her thoughts after seeing the video of George Floyd, who died after a brutal arrest which was caught on video.
The make-up mogul was the latest star to speak out after video emerged of George Floyd’s arrest in Minneapolis, in which he cried out about not being able to breathe while a police officer knelt on his neck.
The video caused widespread outrage and four officers were fired, with an investigation underway by the FBI and Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
Kylie took to her Instagram account to share a Martin Luther King Jr. quote which read: ‘There comes a time when silence is betrayal’, with her 178 million followers.
She wrote alongside it: ‘Since watching the most devastating and completely heartbreaking video showing the murder of George Floyd earlier this week I haven’t been able to get his face and his words out of my mind.
‘I’ll never personally experience the pain and fear that many black people around the country go through every day but I know nobody should have to live in fear and nobody deserves a death like George Floyd and too many others.
‘Speaking up is long overdue for the rest of us. we’re currently dealing with two horrific pandemics in our country, and we can’t sit back and ignore the fact that racism is one of them.’
As the mother of a mixed-race daughter, Kylie expressed her fears for her child growing up in a world where this could happen.
She added: ‘I fear for my daughter and I hope for a better future for her. My heart breaks for George Floyd’s family and friends.
‘Don’t let his name be forgotten. keep sharing, keep watching, keep speaking out, because it’s the only way we can come together to help bring this much needed change and awareness. Rest In Peace, George Floyd.’
Following George Floyd’s death, demonstrators in Minneapolis have been demanding the officers are charged with murder.
Kylie is the latest in a long line of celebrities to share her horror at the video, with John Boyega, Cardi B, Justin Bieber and Snoop Dogg among others that have spoken out.
