After numerous complaints from players, is this the most popular Fortnite has been for a while? (Pic: Ninja)

Ninja's Fortnite tournament could be the best thing to happen to Mixer

by

Fortnite pro Ninja is hosting his own tournament over the next few weeks, and its popularity could be quite the boon for Mixer.

The sudden delay to Fortnite’s next season has more than likely frustrated a number of already irritable players.

However, a lot of attention seems to be elsewhere, as Fortnite pro Ninja has begun holding his very own Fortnite tournament and it has been attracting a lot of positive buzz.

Simply titled the Ninja Battles, the competition sees 60 of the best Fortnite players in the world duke it out for a piece of a $400,000 (almost £32,500) prize pool.

The tournament, which began yesterday, will run for six weeks and has esports commentators MonsterDface and Ballatw providing running observations and analysis’ on Ninja’s own Mixer channel.

Ninja and Fortnite alone are incredibly popular worldwide, but with competitors able to stream the event via their own channels as well, this could be the boon streaming service Mixer needs to help it rise against its main competition, Twitch.

Earlier in the week, Mixer streamer Shroud claimed that Mixer would eventually win out over Twitch in the long-run. Depending on how well the rest of the tournament goes, we could see his predictions begin to become true.

Feels like it’s been a while since fans have been this happy with Fortnite (pic: Epic Games)

The first day of the tournament drew mostly positive feedback from fans, with many complimenting both the players and commentators.

It’s arguably been the happiest Fortnite players have been with something related to the game in a while. The last few months, many players, including Ninja himself, have been growing increasingly irate with Fortnite for numerous reasons.

The event wasn’t without some controversy, however. The winner, ZexRow, called players who didn’t place within the top ten ‘dogs**t’ and ‘braindead’ among other insults during a post-match interview.

Naturally, it didn’t go down well with viewers and other competitors and ZexRow later posted an apology on Twitter, though he was still ultimately banned from future Ninja Battles.

Fortnite is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Switch, iOS, and Android.
