Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher teases Strictly Come Dancing stint
by Rishma DosaniJamie Carragher claimed he’s going on Strictly Come Dancing, and we absolutely need this to happen.
During a stint on The Football Show, the Liverpool legend joked he had been approached by BBC to appear in the next series.
Pal Gary Neville dropped him in it while chatting to David Seaman, asking the Arsenal goalkeeper about his time on Dancing On Ice.
‘Dave you’ve been on Strictly Come Dancing and Carra’s been asked to go on the next season,’ he replied, before quickly being corrected.
‘Oh, Dancing on Ice, sorry mate! I knew it was one of those programmes. But Carra’s been asked to go on, what advice would you give him?’
When asked what show he would be competing on, Jamie replied: ‘I’m doing Strictly.’
Clearly shocked by the update, David questioned if the 42-year-old could actually dance.
‘You’ll have to find out! I’ll have a go, once I’ve had a few bevvies down me,’ he responded.
‘Well, we’ll see how it goes.’
Host Kelly Cates admitted she had no idea whether he was being truthful, telling viewers: ‘Half of the time I don’t know whether he’s joking or not!
‘Carra could be going on Strictly… I just don’t know.’
Are there ‘bevvies’ backstage in the Strictly dressing rooms? Asking specifically for Jamie Carragher.
The former England ace doubled down on this later on in the show, quipping that he was hoping to ‘make a few quid’ after the pandemic.
Revealing his agent had been ‘in touch’ about the BBC competition, he teased: ’We were a bit worried about the financial implications in the Premier League and that, so I thought I was going to lose out on a bit of dough, so I actually took the opportunity to go on Strictly and try and make a few quid.
‘Gary’s missed out on the Euros, he was going to do that for another channel as well, so I think we’re just looking out for ourselves at this moment.’
Ending the show, Jamie added: ’We’re all delighted that The Football Show is coming to an end now and the football season is starting.
‘I will be going on Strictly, I will be practicing dancing in the next couple of weeks after Liverpool win the league.’
Jamie wouldn’t be the first footballer to switch the pitch for the dancefloor, with Alex Scott finishing in fifth place last year.
Robbie Savage, Peter Schmeichel and John Barnes have also competed for the Glitterball trophy in the past.
Can Carra best them all and win the show outright?
BBC has refused to comment on the claims.
