‘Should never be allowed to retire’: Fans go wild as 33yo Morris goes full Origin 2014

Can the Morris brothers play footy forever?

Now 33 years old and off contract, contemplating retirement, the twins don’t seem to be slowing down at all with age.

In fact they stole the show in a first half full of highlights in Friday’s blockbuster clash between the Roosters and Rabbitohs.

In their first game together since leaving the Bulldogs two years ago, Josh and Brett were two the Chooks’ best.

Brett in particular put together a passage of play which drew comparisons to his State of Origin heroics of 2014.

Brett famously broke his shoulder, and then stopped Queensland opponent Cooper Cronk from scoring a try in that series defining moment. The Blues would go on to win the 2014 series.

On Friday night, the Rabbitohs looked certain to score a try and it was only Morris who prevented them, making a series of incredible defensive efforts in the one set.

Bunnies centre Braidon Burns made a break and it was the much older Morris who ran the young buck down, latching on and dragging his opponent down.

Burns offloaded to Alex Johnston who looked like running away to the line but the veteran Morris miraculously got up and tackled that ball-runner as well.

He got back to marker and made the next tackle, too, allowing his teammates to get back in the line.

A couple of players later Morris knocked the South Sydney kick dead, saving the day essentially three times in the set, possibly four.

The passage of player received a swarm of tweets heaping praise on the 33-year-old star.
