Rio appeals citizens not to panic; Apologizes for Tuensang COVID-19 fiasco

Dimapur, May 29: As the number of COVID-19 positive cases in Nagaland continues to climb sparking fear among the citizens, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has appealed to the people of Nagaland not to panic but strengthen the resolve to fight together against the disease.
As on May 29, the COVID-19 positive cases in Nagaland have jumped to 25, after the first positive case was detected on May 25.
“Let us not panic, rather let us strengthen our resolve to fight together and triumph together,” appealed the chief minister in a message. Rio said he is reaching out to all fellow citizens as the State enters the most crucial stage of the global pandemic with COVID-19 reaching Nagaland.
The Chief Minister also reiterated his earlier claim that Nagaland is better prepared now to combat the disease.
“We have been preparing to deal with the pandemic over the last few weeks and in spite of our limitations we are better prepared than yesterday,” he said.
Rio also admitted lapses in management of the crisis by the State and expressed regret for the same.
“With large number of returnees coming back home and detection of positive cases, there was a management gap and some miscommunication among the various functionaries for which the government regret,” he said.
Welcoming all stranded citizens returning from different parts of the country, the chief minister requested them to strictly adhere to Government advisories, follow guidelines and make every possible effort to contain the virus at each individual level.
Thanking all for their help and support to the Government, the chief minister expressed confidence that with the help of God Almighty and the concerted efforts of all stakeholders, Nagaland will overcome the challenges that lie ahead. (Page News Service)
