The Dishonored Franchise Still Lives
by Alistair JonesArkane's Dishonored series has not been put on hold. Speaking to IGN, co-creative director Dinga Bakaba said that rumours to that effect had been "over interpreted," even if the storyline pertaining to the three pre-existing titles has come to an end.
In 2018, after the release of the series' third outing, lead designer Ricardo Bare said that Dishonored was "resting for now." In the wake of news that Dishonored 2 sales had been disappointing when compared to its predecessor, those words were enough for some to sign the series' death warrant.
Bakaba, however, says that those fears were "highly exaggerated," and that "I don't think there was a desicion to put [the] Dishonored series on hold." Bakaba acknowledges that the story of Corvo and Emily Kaldwin, as well as that of the mythical Outsider, is "over," but doesn't rule out a return to that world at some point.
I'm a big fan of Dishonored, and what's struck me in the past is the breadth of the world that the games explore. Dunwall and Karnaca are two tiny slices of a much broader setting, and I think it'd be fascinating to see how Arkana might interpret that in future titles.
