UL agrees to refund student accommodation costs

The University of Limerick has announced that rent paid by students who then had to vacate their student accommodation because of the Covid-19 health crisis, will be refunded to them.

In a statement today the board of the company  Plassesy Campus Centre which manages the university residences said the students will be refunded their rental income from the time they left their student premises last March to the end of term.

The full amount to be refunded is €3.45 million.

A number of post graduate students had mounted a protest at the university yesterday calling on the University campus company to return their rental income, in line with what other universities had already done.

The university has also announced that the new term will begin on 28 September next, when the university will facilitate online, remote, blended and  some on campus face to face teaching in line with public health directives--keeping in mind that the university campus may have to close again at any time.

The university added: "The details of UL's offer of student accommodation will be based both on the nature of the academic offering and the public health advice."
