Marko Grujic states it is still a dream to play for Liverpool

Marko Grujic has told Liverpool’s official website that it is still a dream of his to pull on a red Liverpool shirt and made it abundantly clear that is where he sees his future – as he continues to impress on loan at Hertha Berlin.

Liverpool fans tuned in to watch Hertha’s clash against RB Leipzig on Wednesday night, with both Grujic and strongly-linked summer target Timo Werner on display. But it was midfielder Grujic that got his name on the score sheet, instead of Werner.

The two players played out an enthralling 2-2 draw, that saw Hertha Berlin open the scoring through a Grujic volley. The 24-year-old has played every single minute of Hertha’s three games, since the Bundesliga returned.

But the Serbia international has a contract at Liverpool until the summer of 2023 and he told the Reds’ website that he still sees himself as a Reds player – despite last featuring for the club back in December 2017 as a substitute against Brighton.

“I am still a Liverpool player and I want to be, one day, a regular Liverpool player. For me it’s still a dream to play for the club so we keep in touch,” Grujic said, when discussing his future at Anfield.

TBR’s view – Should Liverpool keep Grujic?

Right now, yes. The club are unlikely to go big in the upcoming transfer window and with both Adam Lallana and Pedro Chirivella due to leave the club this summer – Grujic is needed to at least provide cover next season.

Despite only playing 14 times for Liverpool since his £5.1million (Guardian) move, Grujic has now had two years’ experience at the top level with Hertha – clocking up 48 appearances for the Bundesliga side. He has likely to surpass 50 before the summer.

Yes, he should remain at Liverpool – but only as cover for the likes of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Gini Wijnaldum.
