Tractor used to rescue pony from ditch

A pony was rescued by crews from Avon Fire and Rescue after the animal got stuck in a drainage ditch in North Somerset.

The fire service posted on social media revealed how it came to the assistance of the pony, called Maisey, after she became stuck in Puxton.

A tractor had to be used to free the animal.

They posted: "#bluewatch is back & was straight out the door this morning, with a bit of green watch, to Rescue 'Maisey' who got herself stuck in Puxton. #animalrescue#notjustfires."

A spokesperson for the Fire Service said: "Crews from Bedminster and Winscombe fire stations were mobilised to reports of a pony stuck in a rhyne.

"On arrival, firefighters used animal rescue equipment and the assistance of a tractor to rescue to the animal.

"Once free from the rhyne, the animal was handed to a vet at the scene."
