Man rescued from overturned lorry

The crash happened on Tetbury Road, Old Sodbury

A man was rescued from a lorry which overturned near Yate.

The heavy vehicle fell on its side, stopping traffic on the Tetbury Road in Old Sodbury on Wednesday (May 27).

Crews from Avon Fire and Rescue were called along with police and South Western Ambulance Service.

Crews from Bath, Avonmouth and Yate were in attendance and the force posted the following on social media: "#yateoncall responded to a heavy goods vehicle on its side last night. Crew rescued the driver and he was left in the hands of @swasFT paramedics. #yate#chippingsodbury@AvonFireRescue."

Other emergency services including the police and ambulance were also in attendance at the incident.

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue said: "Crews from Bath, Avonmouth and Yate fire stations were mobilised to reports road traffic collision.

"On arrival, firefighters found one heavy goods lorry on its side.

"One male casualty self-rescued with the assistance of a ladder and crews remained on scene to make the vehicle safe.

"Police and ambulance were also in attendance."

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police added: "We were called to reports of a lorry on its side in Old Sodbury on Wednesday 27 May at approximately 8.25pm.

"Road closures were put in place while the scene was cleared. The route was fully reopened shortly after 4am.

"Enquiries into the incident are ongoing,

"Anyone who saw what occurred, or has dash cam footage, is asked to report it online or call 101, giving reference number 5220115178."

South Western Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment by Bristol Live.
