Manchester United want wonderkid dubbed ‘the next Lionel Messi’
by Bence BocsakAccording to the latest reports, Manchester United are looking to sign a wonderkid who has been described as the ‘next Messi.’
Being a wonderkid comes with unprecedented media attention and fan frenzy. In football, people tend to flock towards wonderkids and worship their potential before they had even announced their names on the world stage. Manchester United have had their fair share of wonderkids in the past, some have went onto fulfil their potential, like Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo and others not so much, such as Adnan Januzaj and Federico Macheda.
In the case of Pietro Pellegri, his wonderkid status is weighed down by the extra pressure of being labelled as the ‘next Lionel Messi.’
Those comparisons are undoubtedly far-fetched and wide of the mark and it will be one that Italian forward will probably try to steer himself clear from.
At 19, Pietro Pellegri is yet to achieve even a slight vestige of Lionel Messi’s feats in football. In fact at a towering height of 1.88 metres, Pellegri is hardly of the same ilk as Lionel Messi.
Nonetheless, the current Monaco forward does have an abundance of potential. His talent was spotted early on having made his Serie A debut by the time he was just 15 years old. He managed 3 goals in 9 games with Genoa before making a lucrative move to AS Monaco in France.
At Monaco Pietro Pellegri is yet to blossom. And it seems that he could soon be on the move. According to Gianlucadimarzio via the Daily Express Man United are interested in bringing Pellegri to Old Trafford.

With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer desperate to add forward reinforcements, Pietro Pellegri could be an astute addition. The Italian fits the transfer strategy Solskjaer has employed since the beginning of his tenure at Old Trafford due to his age and potential. Having not really caught the eye at Monaco he would be available for a relatively cheap price too.
Of course, the concern will be the fact that Pietro Pellegri has failed to fight himself into the first team reckoning in France. Though one can hardly blame him, with AS Monaco having endured a tumultuous period over the last few seasons chopping and changing their managers, any youngster would have struggled.
Do you think Pietro Pellegri could be a good signing for Man United?
