The midfielder has secured a 12-month extension to toast his testimonial year.

Caretaker boss Alec Cleland is delighted to tie-up another member of the Perth squad after Liam Craig, Callum Booth and Chris Kane landed six-month contracts.

Now the only one of previous manager Tommy Wright’s squad whose future remains uncertain is English winger Drey Wright.

Talks are ongoing with the former Colchester United attacker, who was an integral part of Wright’s team before and after a year spent sidelined by a cruciate ligament injury.

Davidson (32) signed for then McDiarmid boss Derek McInnes along with Scottish Cup winning skipper Dave Mackay in a bargain £50,000 deal from Livingston 11 years ago.

“Muzz has been a tremendous player for St. Johnstone and I’m sure I speak for everybody when I say how delighted we are that he’s signed for next year,” said Cleland, who joined the Saints backroom staff in 2009.

“Having arrived here during the same summer as him – prior to working together at Livingston – I know exactly what he brings to the team and his experience will be vital as we look to push on next season.”

Midfield powerhouse Davidson, who was capped for Scotland in the Craig Levein era, has clocked-up 348 appearances for Saints under managers McInnes, Steve Lomas and Wright, netting 40 goals.

He made 21 appearances in the latest campaign, which was cut short by a broken arm sustained in training.
