Neon Genesis Evangelion fans, this limited edition Oppo Ace 2 EVA is for you
by Nic KerOppo has a knack for getting uniquely-themed smartphones right, like the Oppo Reno Ace Gundam Edition from 2019. Now, the Chinese smartphone makers have announced the Oppo Ace 2 EVA Limited Edition as a way to mark the 25th anniversary of the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime series.
Now, before we go any further—doesn’t it look great? Here are some official images:
But to be honest with you, the coolest thing that Oppo has done has got to be the box that the Ace 2 EVA comes packed in. Within a cardboard box (that looks a lot like wine packaging) sits a pill-shaped capsule holding the device, along with other Evangelion-themed goodies.
There’s a little Spear of Longinus to double up as your SIM ejector tool, along with some NERV-themed wired earbuds. There’s also a dual-toned 65W charger in the box that takes design cues from the anime series’ mecha launch pad. If you’re keen to complete the look with some wireless accessories, you can also pickup the similarly-themed Oppo Watch or the Enco W31 TWS earbuds.
It appears that the Oppo Ace 2 EVA Limited Edition shares the same internals with the standard edition of the Oppo Ace 2: a Snapdragon 865 chipset, a 6.5″ Full HD+ AMOLED 90Hz display and the same quad-camera rear setup. However, only a single memory variant is available: 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
Only 10,000 units will be available on the 1st of June 2020, and it looks like the Ace 2 EVA can only be bought in China. Pricing is set at CNY4,399 (~RM2,678), with the the additional Oppo Watch and Enco W31 priced at CNY1,999 (~RM1,217) and CNY299 (~RM182) respectively. There’s also a 40W wireless charger that you can opt for, although it has since disappeared from the official Oppo site.
