Police call for six Premier League games to be moved involving Liverpool and Man Utd

Police have identified six Premier League fixtures that are of particular concern and will be staged at neutral venues once football returns.

Three games involving title chasing Liverpool will be moved to a neutral venue as will two of Newcastle's and Manchester United v Sheffield United

Jurgen Klopp's side will play the Merseyside derby and the game that is likely to seal the title at neutral venues.

A police statement said about the former that "the game in which Liverpool could secure the league title" should also be moved, but this may be more than one fixture should Liverpool fail on their first attempt.

However there is no possibility of the Reds and the Toffees meeting in Manchester, reports the Daily Mail.

The six games police have concerns over are: Manchester City v Liverpool, Manchester City v Newcastle, Manchester United v Sheffield United, Newcastle v Liverpool, Everton v Liverpool and which ever game sees Liverpool wrap up the title.

Deputy chief constable Mark Roberts of South Yorkshire Police said: "Our discussions with the Premier League throughout this process have been positive, with a shared focus on the priority of public health.

"As such we have reached a consensus that balances the needs of football, while also minimising the demand on policing.

"The majority of remaining matches will be played at home and away as scheduled, with a small number of fixtures taking place at neutral venues, which, contrary to some reports, have yet to be agreed.

"The views and agreement of forces which host Premier League clubs have been sought and where there were concerns, the Premier League has been supportive in providing flexibility in arranging alternative venues where requested.

"This plan will be kept continually under review to ensure public health and safety and a key part of this is for supporters to continue to respect the social distancing guidelines, and not to attend or gather outside the stadiums."

On Thursday it was announced that the league would resume on June 17 with the four clubs who clubs have games in-hand playing before a full round of fixtures, involving all 20 sides, over the weekend of June 20.

Neutral venues had been touted as an idea that would be implemented throughout the league.

Newcastle in 13th are currently the lowest ranked side to have to play a game at a neutral venue.

Objections had come from teams fighting against relegation with Brighton claiming it impacted the competition's integrity.
