Holidaymakers flock to the seaside resort in Skegness every year

The announcement that Fantasy Island's market would be reopening next week was enough to ignite the hopes of holidaymakers looking to return to Skegness for a summer break this year.

Rumours on social media speculated how family favourite Butlin's could be reopening in the near future and was gathering such momentum the popular holiday resort has now issued an update.

It's not quite time to dig out the bucket and spade just yet.

In line with Government guidelines there are currently no plans for it to open before July 4.

The popular holiday resort, which has a base in Skegness, has been shut as a part of the Government lockdown measures introduced in late March in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

A spokesperson for the resort told Lincolnshire Live : “Butlin’s has not been holding conversations with Government about reopening before the date stated by Government, which as you will be aware was ‘not before July 4’ for some parts of hospitality.

“We continue to await Government advice as to when we will be allowed to reopen our Butlin’s resorts.”

Previously, the firm has given advice for people who have a summer break booked with them.

"If your break has been affected, you will receive an email, SMS or letter from us asking you to fill in a form,” a Butlin’s spokesperson previously said.

"Please note, we will respond to everyone. We are working through in date order and please don’t worry if your break is coming up soon or your arrival date passes and you haven’t heard from us, all of your options remain open to you."

The spokesperson added that if you have booked a holiday during that time, and you haven't yet heard back from the holiday provider, you can visit their website for the latest information on your booking.
