Discount website that's helping shoppers save money during lockdown

Since we’ve been on lockdown, there’s no doubt we’ve all been eating a bit more than usual, having been stuck at home with not much else to do.

This undoubtedly means that the price of your weekly shop has gone up somewhat.

Many shoppers have quickly embraced budget shopping, having come up with creative ways to cut the cost of their lockdown shopping, by batch cooking or swapping supermarkets.

One website in particular has been helping shoppers keep costs down, www.approvedfood.co.uk.

The website specialises in surplus and short-dated stock, including food that is either near or just past its ‘best before’ date, meaning it can sell products for cheap.

Approved Food does not sell products which are past their ‘use by’ date.

The more than 2,000 products available, which are often big brand names and ex-supermarket items, include everything from food and drinks to household goods and toiletries.

According to the website, shoppers typically save around £60 on their monthly shop compared to high street prices, which means you could save about £700 a year.

We took a look at some of the best deals available from Approved Food now, which include 1kg of Cadbury hot chocolate for £12.99, 500g of penne pasta for 99p and 400g of Betty Crocker icing for £1.99.

Approved Food also sells a condiments box for £6, which features a range of branded products, including Heinz, Kraft and Nando’s.

Shoppers can also get their hands on cheap beer, beauty products and pet food.
