Piers Morgan has praised his co-star Kate Garraway for her positivity as her husband continues to fight for his life.

The Good Morning Britain presenter said his 'heart breaks' for Kate who is continuing to support Derek Draper as he remains critically ill in hospital after contracting coronavirus.

Piers also credited the 53-year-old for being a "loyal, decent friend and colleague" after she was pictured in tears during Thursday night's Clap for Carers.

He said on Twitter: "This breaks my heart. Few happier, more positive people than @kategarraway. Or a more loyal, decent friend & colleague.

"So many families like hers going through so much unimaginable anguish in this crisis. Sending all my love to Kate & continuing to root for Derek."

It comes after Kate herself issued a weekly update on her husband's condition.

She mentioned how Derek is still "fighting hard" but admitted while Thursday's ritual of applause for frontline workers may be the last, her and their two children's "fear for Derek goes on".

Derek was first admitted to hospital at the end of March after testing positive for Covid-19 and still remains in intensive care two months on.

Kate, 53, has previously said that she and the couple's children Darcey, 14, and William, 11, have been forced to stay away from the hospital and spoke of the "torture" of their situation.
