Green Army rush to snap up new Plymouth Argyle home shirts for next season
First day sales of the kit showed a huge increase compared to 2019
by Chris ErringtonSimon Hallett has thanked the Green Army for the ‘amazing response’ to the launch of Plymouth Argyle’s new home kit for the 2020/21 season.
The Puma-manufactured strip was available for the first time on Thursday, via the website www.argylesuperstore.co.uk.
First day sales for the green shirt, which has a black trim on the shoulder, were up 185 per cent on last year and 68 per cent on 2018/19.
It is a big boost for Argyle, who have been starved of income since the football shutdown in March due to the COVID-19 crisis.
Hallett, Argyle’s owner and chairman, tweeted: “Thanks everyone for this amazing response.”
Given the current guidelines surrounding retail during the coronavirus pandemic, the new kit can only be sold through the Argyle Superstore website.
However, work is ongoing to ensure that the Argyle Superstore is safe to open at the earliest opportunity, including the installation of screens at tills.
Argyle chief executive Andrew Parkinson said: “We are delighted with the design of our 2020/21 kits and I want to thank both Puma and Ginsters for their contribution in maintaining the club’s proud tradition.
“Launching the new kit is always an exciting time for any football supporter and in the current situation, it represents a key opportunity for the club to generate revenue at a time when there are no ticket sales.

“The shirt has been designed with the Green Army in mind.
“We hope that fans will wear it with pride, not only for what we are achieving on the pitch, but also because it represents a commitment to the club, which we do not take for granted.”
The launch of Argyle’s away kit for 2020/21 will follow next month.
