Jermaine Beckford tips Tyler Roberts for Leeds United success despite ‘immature’ tendencies
The Welshman has struggled for regular fitness during his time at Leeds United.
by Mathew NashJermaine Beckford has been singing the praises of one Leeds United attacker, but still admitted there were areas of his game that needed improving.
Beckford, a cult hero at Elland Road, was talking to the Yorkshire Evening Post about Leeds’ United’s performances this season and spoke highly of the Welsh attacker Tyler Roberts.
“He’s had a tricky time with his injuries. He’s another player that is very exciting…
“…He is still a little bit immature with a couple of the things that he does when he is on the field but he’s had multiple injury lay-offs so he is trying to find his feet again and he is trying to get back to a position where he plays week in, week out.
“He’s a very good player and I am a big fan of him as well. He is definitely going to make waves.”
Beckford, who spent four years in West Yorkshire, said he expects Roberts ‘to make waves’ at Leeds United but that the 21-year-old still did some ‘immature’ things on the pitch that need to be eradicated.
Roberts has, of course, had a difficult time since arriving at Leeds United in January 2018. The Welsh international failed to play a single game in his first season at the club because of a broken bone in the base of his leg.
Unfortunately, he had injury trouble last season and 2019-20 has also seen the Welshman sit out large periods of competitive action.
However, when fully fit, the attacker has shown the ability to be a top star for Leeds United.
His two-goal salvo against Hull City just before lockdown yet again cemented his place as an underachieving talent at Leeds United.
Leeds fans will certainly hope that Roberts can go on to live up to Beckford’s exciting assessment of his abilities.
