KCR commissions another component of Kaleshwaram, water flows into Kondapochamma Sagar

by

In a major boost to the agriculture sector in the dry tracts of Telangana, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao today inaugurated the 15-TMC Kondapochamma Sagar reservoir in Siddipet district.

He switched on the heavy duty pumps at the Markook pump house at a simple ceremony in the presence of Tridandi Chinna Jeeyar Swami.

Earlier, the CM along with his wife offered prayers. The water has reached this pump house and reservoir after being pumped over a stretch of nearly 250 km and to a height of 518 m above sea level. This was made possible by setting up a series of pump houses with heavy-duty pumps transporting water to these parched reacts.

The Godavari water reaching the Gajwel area is a dream come true for people in the district, and has been made possible by the mega Kaleswaram lift irrigation scheme. Earlier, farmers in the region had to depend on monsoons and bore wells for cultivation. The commissioning of this project will help bring about three lakh acres under irrigated cultivation in the arid part of the State.

Since the Godavari flows at a low level and all these districts are located at much higher levels, the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation scheme was implemented.

The water thus stored at this reservoir will be diverted and supplied to the neighbouring Medak and Sangareddy districts, and from there through canals will be guided to other projects, including the Singur reservoir. Along the way, it will irrigate lakhs of acres across several districts. These were drought-prone parts of the State, fully dependant on rainwater during monsoons and borewells.
