CD Projekt Red has confirmed Cyberpunk 2077 to be in the final stages of development. The company also has some major news about their biggest franchise: the Witcher series has now sold over 50 million copies.

In its latest financial statement (thanks, PCGamesN) the company confirms it "is carrying out with the final stage of development of its most expansive RPG to-date: Cyberpunk 2077." There's still some months to go before Cyberpunk's September 17th release date, so it seems CDPR is very much on schedule. What's more, we should be hearing many more details about the game very soon: CDPR's Night City Wire event takes place in just two weeks, on June 11th. It's been some time since we've had any substantial news on the game, and hopefully CDPR has some gameplay or other announcements to showcase. Night City Wire is one of several digital events scheduled for this year in place of E3 — we've got a list of all 2020 digital events to check if you'd like to make sure you don't miss out on any.

Meanwhile, CDPR also has some big news about its hugely popular Witcher franchise. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt celebrated its fifth anniversary earlier in May, and most recently, CDPR announced that the Witcher series had sold over 50 million copies. "Over 50 million adventurers joined Geralt on his journey from Kaer Morhen to Vizima," the announcement reads, "through Flotsam and Vergen, Velen and Novigrad to Skellige Isles and Toussaint, and many, many more places, time and time again… Thank you and may we meet on the path again!"

CDPR has plans to return to the Witcher world at some point, and CDPR's CEO Adam Kicinski has hinted that the company will turn its attention to a single-player game after Cyberpunk 2077 releases, but any new game will still be some way off; Kicinski also said their "projects take four-to-five years". For now, it's full steam ahead for Cyberpunk 2077. We'll be sure to bring you any updates on the game, including anything to come out of CDPR's Night City Wire.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
