Two low pressure areas may form over the Bay of Bengal and one may further intensify into the depression, according to the weather forecast for June by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH).

Southwest monsoon is likely to set in central Myanmar areas between June 1 and 5, the whole country between June 6 and 10. Two low pressure areas may form over the Bay of Bengal and one may further intensify into the depression, it said.

During this period, monsoon will be moderate over the Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal, it said.

Rain will be expected below normal in Bago, Yangon, Ayeyawady and Taninthayi regions, Kayin and Mon states, and about normal in Nay Pyi Taw, Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway regions, Kachin, Shan, Chin, Rakhine and Kayah states. Rainy days will be expected 21 to 26 days in upper Sagaing and Taninthayi regions, Kachin, Kayin, and Mon states, 15 to 20 days in Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay, Bago, Yangon and Ayeyawady regions, Shan, Chin, Rakhine states, 9 to 14 days in lower Sagaing and Magway regions, Kayah State, it said.

The storms occurred in Bay of Bengal in April, May, October, and November and depressions usually occur in monsoon season in north of Bay of Bengal. Storms occurred in pre and post rainy seasons caused major destructions.

Three destructive powers of the storms are strong wind, heavy rainfall, and storm tide. Maximum wind speed will be 120 to 130 mph based on the wind speed and size if a storm crosses the Myanmar coast. Wind speed, heavy rain, and storm tide will be high if the storm is severe. Rakhine coast and deltaic areas have the impact of the storm and Chin and Shan states and Magway, Mandalay and Sagaing regions will have regionally rainfall, flash floods and strong wind due to the storms, according to the DMH.
