GMB's Ranvir Singh told to 'get facts right' over Dominic Cummings scandal
by George GriffithsGood Morning Britain presenter Ranvir Singh was told to ‘get her facts right’ live on-air this morning over the escalating Dominic Cummings scandal.
Ranvir and co-host Ben Shephard were joined by broadcaster Iain Dale and former Home Secretary Jacqui Smith to discuss the ongoing rumblings that Cummings’ actions has caused throughout the country.
Talking about the scandal, Ranvir pointed out that Durham Police have the ‘final word’ on what happens to Cummings and whether he faces legal action.
‘It’s interesting, isn’t it, because Durham Police, who are at the centre of all of this really, because their final word is what we have to go on,’ she said.
‘They actually didn’t absolve Dominic Cummings of all guilt because they actually did say he was – they did caption it as ‘minor’ – that there certainly was a breach of the rules. But that he wouldn’t be investigated.’
However, LBC host Iain snapped right back at the news anchor following her statement, which left her visibly shocked.
Iain said: ‘Ranvir, you need to get this right! They did not say there was a breach of the rules, they said there may have been a minor breach of the rules.
‘So let’s be accurate in this.’
Co-anchor Ben, however, tried to salvage the situation by arguing that ‘aren’t we led to believe that there may be, in legalise that they’re saying that there are [a breach in the rules]?’
Let’s agree to disagree, maybe?
Special advisor to the Prime Minister, Cummings is currently under fire for his decision to travel on a 260-mile round trip to Durham during lockdown whilst both he and his wife were ill with coronavirus.
The scandal was erupted intense discussion up and down the country, with some arguing that Cummings’ actions is having a knock-on effect of other using him as an ‘excuse’ to break lockdown rules.
It’s also been reported that, due to the controversy, Cummings is considering quitting his post in six months’ times.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
