Build, Build. Build projects resume

THE Department of Public Works and Highways announced that infrastructure projects under the government’s Build, Build, Build Program in various places nationwide have recommenced, which will fuel government’s bounce back plan to help the economy recover quickly.

DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said the resumption of construction projects is in compliance with the construction safety guidelines released by the department, adding that the continuation of civil works is vital in keeping up with economic growth, target completion dates and in minimizing additional cost due to delays.

“The resumption of civil works, although challenging, will be beneficial to our stakeholders, both motorists and pedestrians, as we cope with the new normal,” he said.

Among the DPWH flagship projects supportive of the traffic decongestion program that has resumed construction are the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge connecting Mandaluyong and Makati City, the Bonifacio Global City-Ortigas Center Link Road Project which involves the construction of a 440-meter bridge that will connect Lawton Avenue in Makati and Sta. Monica Street in Pasig City, and Binondo-Intramuros Bridge in Manila.

With this, Villar reminded contractors, concessionaires, and suppliers to ensure the safety of workers by providing their personnel and workers necessary welfare and amenities such as quarters for board and lodging, continuous supply of vitamins, as well as personal equipment needed for daily work like masks, gloves, and protective gear.

Daily monitoring of pre- and post-work health conditions of all the workers will also be mandatory to ensure their welfare and protection.

“If there are any suspected COVID-19 patients, they will be immediately isolated and quarantined for 14 days and, if necessary, be brought to our treatment facility for healthcare,” Villar said.
