Nokia Anew, a very good and usually reliable source of all things about Nokia phones, tweeted information that might define the state of Nokia Mobile, a project which HMD Global has been running for the past four years. According to his sources, the foldable Nokia phone project is still alive and in development. This doesn’t mean that we will be seeing a foldable smartphone with a Nokia logo soon, but it is great to hear that Nokia Mobile still has the financial power to develop such a device. I hope that Nokia Anew is referring to a smartphone since Nokia 2720 is foldable too.

Foldables are currently reserved for the most powerful smartphone manufacturers, and those phones are so expensive and fragile which makes them usable only for some specific scenarios, for example, showing off. I would be pretty scared to keep Huawei Mate Xs in the pocket or purse since the screen will probably be dented due to the softness of the protective plastic layer that sits above the foldable display.

The only usable foldable smartphone currently is Motorola Razr, but that phone is underpowered and also expensive. If Nokia Mobile would follow that design or design of Nokia Communicator, then the durability of the screen might be improved, but the question is how long the phone would last without any issues with the hinges or dust inside the phone, and can Nokia Mobile finance the project at all.
For now, things sound good, and if the phone ever gets to the mass production stage, the best possible event to see it would be the MWC21, of course, if SARS-CoV-2 allows the event.
