Tottenham supporters react as club reportedly eye Atletico Madrid defender Stefan Savic

by

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Atletico Madrid defender Stefan Savic this summer and could land the Serbian as part of a cut-price deal in the coming months – and Spurs fans have reacted on Twitter.

Savic, 29, will be remembered by Premier League fans for his disappointing stint at Manchester City during the 2011-12 season – which saw him manage just 21 appearances under Roberto Mancini. He has since made a name for himself at Atleti.

Under the expert guidance of Diego Simeone, Savic has shown time and time again that he is one of the most in-form central defenders on the Champions League circuit. His efforts against Liverpool before the suspension proved just that.

Powerful in the air, strong in the tackle but also comfortable when in possession, 6ft 2in Savic is a leader in Atletico’s team – having clocked up more than a whopping 150 appearances in all competitions under Simeone.

That has alerted Tottenham and Jose Mourinho, with TodoFichajes claiming they can sign Savic for a bargain £13.5million this summer. With Jan Vertonghen leaving, the north London club need a replacement and Savic fits the bill.

The report claims Savic is keen on a potential move to Tottenham and Spurs fans have reacted on Twitter to the news that the Atletico Madrid powerhouse could be on his way back to the Premier League. But many are not impressed.
