Olivia Lee is being recognized at the national level, both for her excellence on the soccer field and her accomplishments in the classroom.

The Marysville Pilchuck High School graduate, who played the fall season with Everett Community College, was selected to the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators’s (NATYCAA) 2020 Scholar Athlete Team.

Lee, a sophomore midfielder, tied for the team lead with nine goals and led the Trojans with eight assists as Everett finished the season 9-6-5. She was named a North-East Region All-Star. In the classroom Lee earned her associate degree with honors in the fall, compiling a 4.0 grade-point average in four quarters at Everett, and is now enrolled at Western Washington University.

Lee, the female representative from District 9, was one of eight finalists for the NATYCAA’s Female Scholar Athlete of the Year award. She is the first Everett athlete of either gender to be named a finalist for the award since it began in 1992.

Lee is set to play for the powerhouse Vikings women’s soccer team in the fall.

Snohomish Soccer Dome closing

The Snohomish Soccer Dome is closing. The indoor soccer facility, which has served the Snohomish community for more than 30 years, had to suspend operations because of the coronavirus outbreak. The facility’s income came solely from walk-in and team payments, so a fundraiser was started to try and help the facility cover its rent through the pandemic. More than $10,000 was raised, but it felt short of covering the facility’s obligations, forcing its closure.

Everett native earns golf coaching honor

Everett native David Lynn, now the men’s golf coach at Oklahoma Christian University, was named the NCAA Division II Lone Star Conference’s Men’s Golf Coach of the Year. Lynn’s Eagles were ranked No. 11 in the NCAA Division II coaches poll when the season was canceled because of the coronavirus outbreak. It was the second straight year Lynn was named the conference’s coach of the year, and the ninth time he’s earned coach of the year honors in his 19 years as Oklahoma Christian’s coach.
