Quentin Tarantino says The Social Network ‘crushes all competition’ to be the best film of the last decade

'It is number one because it’s the best,' he said

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood director Quentin Tarantino is often very vocal about films he thinks are deserving of credit and now he has let us know his favourite film of the last decade.

Speaking to Premiere, Tarantino was asked about which film he thought was the best from the last ten years. “It’s The Social Network, hands down… It is number one because it’s the best, that’s all! It crushes all the competition,” said Tarantino.

The 2010 David Fincher drama follows the creation of Facebook and the rise of Mark Zuckerberg. It was nominated for eight Oscars including Best Picture and won three (Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Editing, and Best Original Score).

The 57-year-old director went on to praise The Social Network’s script, calling its writer Aaron Sorkin “the greatest active dialogist”.

Tarantino has followed Sorkin’s work religiously, especially his 2012 HBO drama The Newsroom which followed news anchor Will McAvoy as he worked to collaborate with new colleagues at the Atlantis Cable News Channel after his previous team quits.

The director said he used to watch each new episode of The Newsroom three times in the same week.

Tarantino has also often been very appreciative of the work of Fincher, whose Fight Club was on his list of the best films released between 1992 and 2009.

Last year, Tarantino surprised fans by naming Crawl his favourite film of the year. The horror film follows a girl and her dad trying to survive a flooded Florida crawlspace that is infested with alligators.

It was almost universally panned by critics. The Independent’s review called it “both too stupid and not stupid enough”.
