The driver was detained by police after a car chase on the M60

A suspected drug driver has been arrested after driving the wrong way along a motorway.

The driver made off from police on Thursday evening (May 28) and travelled the wrong way along the M56.

The same driver was then sighted again on the M61 in the early hours of Friday morning.

They led officers from Greater Manchester Police and Merseyside Police on a car chase on the M60 before losing control at junction 8 for Sale.

Police then arrested them for several offences including drug driving.

In a post on the North West Motorway Police Facebook page, a spokesperson said: "A car that made off from patrols last night & travelled the wrong way along the M56 was sighted earlier on the M61.

"Our GMP & Merseyside patrols working together to keep the pursuit on the M60.

"Driver lost control at J8 & was arrested for numerous offences inc drug driving."
