Coronavirus: Presidency releases 10 measures Buhari has put in place to tackle Covid-19

In celebration of the fifth anniversary of the Muhammadu-Buhari-led administration, the presidency has outlined some important measures put in place by the president to tackle the coronavirus pandemic.
In a piece put together by Femi Adesina, the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, President Buhari was quoted as saying that he adopted a two-step approach to tackling the pandemic.
The first approach is focused on the protection of lives (of Nigerians and other residents) while the second borders on protecting businesses and workers from the harsh impact of the pandemic.

Legit.ng highlights the key measures the president has put in place in his coronavirus response strategy as provided by his spokesperson, Adesina.
1. Economic Sustainability Committee
In order to ensure the economy does not collapse, President Buhari set an Economic Sustainability Committee which is chaired by his deputy, Yemi Osinbajo.
The mandate is to develop a comprehensive economic plan to respond to the disruptions and dislocations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
2. Presidential Task Force on COVID-19
The task force is set up to coordinate Nigeria's anti-Covid-19 fight from the national level to the sub-national.
It is being chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, while Dr Sani Aliyu serves as the national coordinator.
3. Committee on assessment of Covid-19 impact on the economy
To be specifically sure of how to respond appropriately to the coronavirus scourge, President Buhari also set up an inter-ministerial committee to assess the pandemic's impact on the economy and the 2020 budget and recommend appropriate and immediate response strategies.

The committee is made up of the minister of finance, budget and national planning, minister of state petroleum resources, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
4. Establishment of a 500 billion Naira COVID-19 Crisis Intervention Fund
The president established the intervention fund for the upgrading of health facilities across the country, finance a national Special Public Works Programme, and other necessary interventions.
5. Special intervention grants (N10 billion) to Lagos and (N5 billion) to NCDC
As Nigeria's epicentre if Covid-19, President Buhari released N10 billion to the Lagos state government to support the state in fighting the pandemic.
Also, as the federal health agency directly responsible for coordinating Nigeria's response to Covid-19, the NCDC was granted N5 billion.
6. Release of 70,000 Metric Tonnes of Grain as palliative
To cushion the effect of the Covid-19 lockdown on the vulnerable citizens, President Buhari also approved the immediate Release of 70,000 Metric Tonnes of grain for distribution to poor and vulnerable households across the country.

7. Joint Technical Task Team on transportation of food and agricultural inputs
To ensure that there is seamless transportation of food items across the country during the coronavirus lockdown, the president established a Joint Technical Task Team.
8. Three-month repayment moratorium for all TraderMoni, MarketMoni and FarmerMoni loans
President Buhari also approved a three-month repayment moratorium for all TraderMoni, MarketMoni and FarmerMoni loans, ton ensure citizens are not over-burdened with loan repayment at this critical period.
The president also approved a three-month moratorium for all FG-funded loans issued by the Bank of Industry, Bank of Agriculture and the Nigeria Export-Import Bank.
9. Expansion of National Social Register
The National Social Register is the official database of the households across Nigeria that are paid stipends under the Conditional Cash Transfer programme. President Buhari approved the expansion of the database to cover an additional one million households during the pandemic.
10. Implementation of Modified version of National Home Grown School Feeding Programme
Though schools have been shut down nationwide due to the Covid-19 lockdown, President Buhari approved a modified version of the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme which ensures that dry food rations are delivered to households of pupils already benefiting from the programme while in school.

Meanwhile, the presidency has also released a list of measures President Buhari has taken, and will further take, to make life abundant for Nigerians after coronavirus ends.
