Award-winning drama 'Poppie Nongena' coming to DStv BoxOffice
The movie, Poppie Nongena based on the award-winning novel by Elsa Joubert will be available on DStv BoxOffice from 21 June.
The award-winning film stars Clementine Mosimane (The Wild, Black Tax) as Poppie, South African isiXhosa mother. Her life revolves around finding stability for her family during a period of insufferable upheaval in the country when African women were forced, by arrests, fines and forced removal, to leave their homes and resettle in remote areas designated as black homelands.
At the annual Silwerskerm Film Festival in Camps Bay last year the drama won 12 awards, and two awards at the Saftas this year.
The film directed by Christiaan Olwagen (Kanarie) also stars Anna-Mart van der Merwe (Kanarie), Chris Gxalaba (Long Walk to Freedom), Rolanda Marais (Binnelanders), David Minaar (Torings) and Lida Botha (Pad Na Jou Hart).
"I'm thrilled that Poppie Nongena will be launching on DStv BoxOffice, as it brings the film to a whole new audience. Poppie became part of me as I walked this journey with the film. Her grace, courage and tenacity touched me and many people deeply," said Clementine.
