How the Premier League’s football feast TV schedule will look with all 92 matches televised
Every remaining match in the Premier League this season will be shown on live TV
by Josh ChalliesThe Premier League has announced a provisional plan to return to action on Wednesday June 17, where the first two of the remaining 92 matches will be played.
Manchester City vs Arsenal and Sheffield United vs Aston Villa will raise the curtain for the resumption of the 2019/20 season, followed by the first jam-packed weekend of matches where all 10 games will be televised.
Matches will be spread across the weekend, with Friday night and Monday night matches either side of four games each on Saturday and Sunday - while midweek matches, where required, will be spread across Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Kick-off times will also be staggered, ensuring widespread TV coverage, and the fact that the BBC and Sky Sports will both be showing matches for free will provide a boost to supporters across the nation.
So, how exactly will the action-packed week of football look? We’ve broken it down day by day to provide some insight.
Monday
Monday night matches are fairly normal for the Premier League and have been a staple of the television coverage in recent years - and this will be maximised in the final rounds of matches this season.
Kick-offs are set for 20:00, with build-up likely to start an hour earlier and lasting until around 22:00. Given that this is usually a slot that Sky Sports have, and they will show 64 of the remaining 92 matches, it is likely that their coverage will continue in the usual fashion, including the likes of Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville.
Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday
Matches will not take place during every midweek but, with the timeframe for completing the season extremely tight, there will be a few occasions when using three midweek days for matches will be required.
Kick-off times will be staggered, with matches at 18:00 and 20:00, and would potentially follow the format that Amazon Prime showed in their debut with Premier League coverage in December.
How many matches take place on each evening remains to be seen and the provider for these fixtures is still yet to be confirmed.
Friday
Friday night matches have become more and more regular in the Premier League but, like Monday matches, will become a more regular feature when the 2019/20 campaign draws to a close.
Kick-off times are set at 20:00 and will likely follow the same format as Monday night games, with coverage starting an hour earlier and finishing at 22:00. Sky Sports are also likely to be the host of these matches, as they have covered the slot in recent seasons.
Saturday
The weekends are when the feast of football will really ramp up, with four matches spread across the day and covering all bases - starting with the usual 12:30 early fixture, likely to be on BT Sport as it has been throughout the season.
A 15:00 match is something entirely different for the Premier League though as it’s usually a period blocked by the TV blackout, which has been lifted for the remainder of the 2019/20 season, and it’s unknown who will show these games.
The later 17:30 kickoff has been a staple of the Sky Sports weekly coverage this season and is likely to continue to be the same but decisions will also need to be made on the 20:00 match, the final game of the day, as this is unchartered territory for the Premier League.
Sunday
With four matches spread across the Sunday, Sky Sports’ flagship Super Sunday programme could truly live up to its billing but four back-to-back matches may be too much, so other broadcasters could pick up one or two matches.
The 12:00 kickoff is earlier than the usual slot for Sunday games but slots in ahead of the usual 14:00 match, which in turn would be followed by the 16:30 match - the two games that are usually the basis for Sky Sports’ Super Sunday coverage.
In the evening, a 19:00 kickoff would bring an end to two consecutive days of four matches being played but the cycle would begin again the following day, kickstarting a new week of action-packed drama and excitement.
