Seven people shot in Louisville during protests over death of Breonna Taylor

Seven people were shot in Louisville, Kentucky, on Thursday night as protests broke out over the shooting death of Breonna Taylor, reports said.

Hundreds of protesters stormed through the street in downtown Louisville calling for justice in the March killing of Taylor, who was shot at least eight times when officers forcibly entered her apartment to serve a warrant.

A total of seven people were shot and one was in “critical” condition, according to WDRB-TV.

The shots were fired around 11:30 p.m. as swarms of protesters gathered near Metro Hall. The Louisville Metro Police Department did not say where the gunfire came from.

“It is unclear at this time whether or not we will be able to provide additional updates this evening,” an LMPD spokesperson said in a statement.

Taylor, a 26-year-old aspiring nurse, was killed March 13 when Louisville police officers stormed into her apartment to execute a drug warrant.

The protests in Kentucky came as demonstrators in Minneapolis set a police precinct on fire in protest of George Floyd’s death.

Floyd, a black man, died Monday in police custody shortly after a white officer kneeled on his neck.
