Part of the A38 in Plymouth had to be closed in the early hours of this morning after a car burst into flames.

The Fire Service says it was called to the A38 Westbound, between Forder Valley and Manadon, shortly before 1am.

A spokesperson said the Fire Service "received a couple of calls to a vehicle on fire".

"Fire Appliances from Crownhill and Greenbank were mobilised to this incident," said the spokesperson.

"On arrival, crews confirmed one vehicle well alight and got to work to extinguish the fire using one Hose Reel and one Breathing Apparatus.

"The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental."

At 1.29am this morning, Highways England tweeted: "A38 Southbound Forder Valler towards Mandaon. Police and Fire Service are on scene with our Traffic officers dealing with a vehicle fire.

"One lane of traffic is blocked. Please take care on approach."
