As Haryana government sealed its borders with Delhi over the rising number of coronavirus cases in the national capital, massive traffic congestion and hundreds of people were seen standing at the Delhi-Gurgaon border on Friday morning.

Videos from the Delhi-Gurgaon border showed many cars and vehicles standing on the Delhi-Gurgaon connecting road while people riding bicycles and walking the path were also stranded.

A large gathering of people were seen on the Delhi-Gurgaon border as Haryana government banned all travel between Delhi and Haryana. Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij issued fresh orders for sealing borders with the national capital on Thursday night.

The minister also said that barring the categories exempted by the Delhi High Court and the Centre, the state borders for others will remain completely sealed.

“The districts bordering Delhi are witnessing a sharp increase in the number of cases, which is a matter of concern,” Vij, who is also the state health minister, told reporters in Ambala.

Gurgaon, Faridabad, Sonipat and Jhajjar are the four worst-hit Haryana districts accounting for a majority of 1,504 infection cases in the state. Faridabad has reported the maximum seven fatalities in the state followed by three in Gurgaon and one in Sonipat, according to a state health bulletin.

These areas also lie on the state borders with Delhi.

Earlier, the Ghaziabad border with Delhi has also been sealed over similar concerns of rising coronavirus cases. Traffic congestion was seen in Ghazipur as well on the Delhi-Ghaziabad border even on Friday, days after the border was sealed by the administration.
