Claims about re-allocation of Niger Delta resources to northeast are false - CNDC

- The Coalition for Niger Delta Cohesion says the rumour concerning the presidential amnesty programme is false

- There were insinuations in some quarters that funds allocated to the programme have been moved to the northeast

- The group said the rumour is the handwork of mischief makers hell-bent on tarnishing the image of government officials

A group, Coalition for Niger Delta Cohesion (CNDC), has denied claims made by some unknown persons that resources meant for the presidential amnesty programme in the Niger Delta have been reallocated to the northeast.

The group was reacting to a video and write-up on a cloned website calling for the intervention of former presidents to call President Muhammadu Buhari to order on some manufactured allegations against the NSA.

Sponsors of the video had also claimed funds meant for the Niger Delta have been moved to the northeast.

The CNDC in a statement signed by its convener, Dr Ebiowei ThankGod on Thursday, May 28, said the allegation is an attempt by mischief makers to demean and assassinate the character of the National Security Adviser, Major-General Babagana Monguno.

Part of the statement read: “For the avoidance of doubt, the NSA, Major-General Monguno is an accomplished intelligent chief who has had a meritorious career with an unblemished record in the military before his current position. His achievements are glowing testimonies to his dedication to duty and patriotism.

“Those who know him can attest to his impeccable character and incorruptible approach to public service. For instance, as soon as he heard rumours of corruption at the Presidential Amnesty Office, he quickly constituted an independent committee to look at the issues and make recommendations to his office.”

The group distanced itself from the video, affirming that so far, there is no one planning to destabilize the amnesty program or the Niger Delta region.

In a related development, a group, Concerned Niger Delta Ex-militants, have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to reinstate Professor Charles Dokubo as the coordinator of the presidential amnesty programme.

Dokubo is currently on suspension and is being investigated by the relevant authorities.

The former Niger Delta militants in a statement jointly signed on Friday, May 22 and sent to journalists, said Dokubo's reinstatement will correct many mistakes made in the past at the presidential amnesty office.
