A 17-year-old girl committed suicide after being chided by her mother to stop watching TikTok, a video-sharing social network. The incident took place at Ramanthapur here in Hyderabad on Thursday.

Getting into details, the girl, Deepika was constantly watching videos on the TikTok and playing games which enraged her mother. She chided her daughter for using the phone and further asked to stop watching TikTok and help her in household chores. Depressed over being chided by her mother, the girl hanged herself from the ceiling with a saree and ended her life.

When her mother went to the girl's room, she found her daughter hanging. She was shifted a hospital where the doctors declared her brought dead. The police registered a case and launched an investigation.

It is learned that Deepika got addicted to TikTok and video games on the phone since the lockdown was announced. She was pursuing polytechnic first year and is the second daughter of Raja Lingam who runs a footwear workshop. They are the residents of Aravind colony in Ramanthapur.
