'I've never seen that £75k before' driver tells police after cash is found on the back seat of his car
He said he didn't know who his passenger was either
by Joe Pagnelli, Raina WilsonA man pulled over by police found with £75,000 on the back seat of his car told officers he had “never seen that before”.
Police stopped a silver Chevrolet on the M1 in South Yorks, after it “caught their eye”.
They discovered it had about £75,000 in cash stuffed in a carrier bag on the rear seat.
Officers were then more amazed when the driver said he didn't know about the stash of cash - or who his passenger was.
South Yorkshire Police ’s Operational Support United shared the claim on social media late on Wednesday night, in a roundup of their day’s work.
They said: “After a nice cup of coffee the team headed over to the M1 where a nice Chevrolet caught our eye.
“The team stopped it and to the occupant’s amazement we found around £75 thousand pound in cash on the back seat.
“At this point the conversation from the occupants went down the lines of ‘Oh I've never seen that before, honest’.
“The conversation only got worse because the driver then didn't know his passenger despite them being in the same car together.
“Anyway we seized the cash and whilst doing so our checks revealed the driver wasn't insured on the car so he collected 6pts and a fine.”
