Woman stored dead grandma in freezer to collect her social security checks

A Pennsylvania woman allegedly stored her grandmother’s body in a freezer for several years in order to collect the dead senior’s social security checks, a report said.

Cynthia Black, 61, was arrested and charged Wednesday for the disturbing scheme that funneled over $186,000 into a bank account used by her, her since-deceased mother, and a relative she lived with, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

Black told authorities her grandmother, Glenora Delahay, died in March 2004 at the age of 97.

It’s unclear how Delahay died, but police said her death was not suspicious.

Delahay received social security checks from 2001 to November 2010, the report said, with the money then transferred to an account used by Black, her mother, Glenora Waltzinger, who died in 2011, and 55-year-old Glenn Black Jr.

In 2007, Cynthia and Glenn Black bought a home together in Dillsburg, which in 2018 was lost to foreclosure, the report said.

The duo ditched Dillsburg, with Cynthia moving elsewhere and Glenn landing in jail in 2018 for an unrelated offense. But they allegedly left behind Delahay’s body.

In February 2019, Delahay’s remains were discovered in a freezer in an empty building next to the home by two women looking at the foreclosed property.

Cynthia Black was charged with abuse of corpse, theft, and receiving stolen property. It’s unclear if charges will be brought against Glenn Black.
